    You will need to see your GP and get a referral to the Gastroenterology Unit at either the Royal Hobart Hospital or the Launceston General Hospital. 

    Before your visit check that your GP has had PCR tests ordered. The PCR test needs to be done before visiting the gastroenterologist as this test shows what genotype of hepatitis C you have and will influence decisions about the duration of any treatment that might be prescribed.

    If you consider accessing a private gastroenterologist and you do not have appropriate private health insurance you should remember some do not bulk bill.

    It is also recommended you get vaccinated for hepatitis A and B.
