Between 15300 - 175 000 people are living with chronic hepatitis B in Australia. Chronic hepatitis B infection in Australia is contributing to an increased burden of advanced liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Identifying and monitoring people with chronic hepatitis B infection allows timely identification of cancer and liver disease, and the institution of effective treatment.

This course provides an overview of the epidemiology, transmission, testing principles, management, natural history and treatment of Hepatitis B. The course also provides a discussion of priority groups relevant to the local division of general practice and provides an overview of local service provision and referral pathways within the area.
