Managing Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is manageable. Living well with hepatitis C is possible.
Managing any chronic condition takes a bit of effort but it is empowering for most people. Managing living with hepatitis C is no different. There are things you can do to minimise the impact of hepatitis C on your body.
Health is determined by a number of factors such as the physical, social, mental and genetic. For this reason there is no single approach to managing life with hepatitis C. Any health care plan should include personal support, whether through a professional or your family and friends. A mix of both is ideal! Professional support people should include a General Practitioner (GP) but may also include a social/support worker and a nutritionist or dietician. Some people also find natural or alternative therapies useful.
Some things that may help you maintain your health include:
- being informed about hepatitis C and its affects;
- maintaining a healthy body weight;
- eating a healthy, balanced diet;
- getting enough rest and exercise;
- being aware of the effects of alcohol and other drugs have on your body - particularly your liver health and avoiding or moderating your intake; and
- investigating complimentary and alternative medicines - we recommend you inform your doctor if you are considering or taking these as there may be interactions with other treatments you might be taking.
