Hep Talk - Discussion Forum > Nausea cures?

    Hi,
I'm in my 30th year of living with Hep C - unfortunately I have the genome that doesn't have a treatment yet. As I get older - I'm 47 - my liver function is getting worse. Though I am luckier than others I get severe nausea. I'm on both Stemetil and Motilum but they aren't working very well anymore.
I've tried a number of holistic/nautropathic treatments especially ginger based but with no success in the long term.
Does anyone have any other nausea medication that has worked for them?
    Thanks :O)

    Hi Carol
I am not sure when you last spoke to a doctor but all genotypes of hepatitis C can be treated. Some are harder to treat and take longer but the medication is the same for all genotypes.
There are a number of things that may reduce your nausea. Changing eating patterns to smaller more frequent meals may help.
Some people have reported some success with using milk thistle. Recent research seems to back this up.
If you would like to talk about this some more you can ring me on 1300 437 222.

    Hi Carolyn,
Thank for your reply. I only go to the Liver Clinic at the RHH every six months and it happened that I was seeing him yesterday so I took along your reply.
He said that I have Genome 1 which, yes is treatable but it takes a year and only has a 50% success rate. However, he is waiting for a new medication to be approved next year which will only need 6 months treatment and has a 80% success rate! I think I'll wait :O)
Because I have BP also he wants me on the shorter one as it may possibly increase my nausea due to the other medications I take.
Unfortunately Milk Thistle is something that doesn't do well with my meds either.
But here's hoping and thanks again for your reply.
    Cheers
    Carol
